Artur Silva in Residence in September 2023
We are pleased to announce that Artur Silva will be the first resident fellow in the Speculative Play and Just Futurities program. While in residence in Indianapolis, Artur will work on his latest project, which centers on the legacy Giovanni Belzoni and the colonial behavior of institutions such as the British Museum.
About Artur Silva
Artur Silva is a visual artist and educator. He was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil where he attended the Escola de Arte Guignard. He earned his Masters in Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts)..
Artur's work has been displayed at institutions such as the Van Abbe Museum in The Netherlands, the Ludwig Foundation in Havana, the Smart Museum in Chicago, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Centro Cultural de España in Mexico City, and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art.
He has received a number of awards including a Pollock-Krasner Grant (NYC), NALAC grant (San Antonio), Efroymson Contemporary Art Fellowship (Indianapolis), Christel DeHaan Artist of Distinction Award (Indianapolis Arts Council), Foundation for Contemporary Arts (NYC), Nominated for a Joan Mitchell Award, among others.
Publications that have featured Artur’s work include The New York Times, Art in America, Forbes, PBS’ Many Rivers To Cross series, among others.
